For internal wet areas we default to professional-grade Ardex waterproofing membranes, fast-curing and compliant with AS 3740. For external balconies and exposed decks, heavy-duty Ardex torch-on or liquid membrane systems. Bond breakers, reinforcing fabric and primer used per manufacturer system specification. Compliance documentation supplied on completion for all work.
Yes. Under Australian Standard AS 3740, wet area waterproofing must be installed by a licensed waterproofer and certified before tiling. A standard tiler is not licensed to certify the waterproofing layer. Skipping this step voids most home insurance policies in the event of a leak.
Waterproofing is the membrane layer that sits beneath the tiles and forms the watertight base. Caulking is the flexible silicone bead at the surface joints between tile, glass and other materials. Both are needed in any wet area. Waterproofing stops bulk water; caulking stops surface seepage.
Limited scope only. Once tiles are down, the only practical option is surface-applied caulking and joint resealing. Full waterproofing requires tile removal, screed inspection, and a complete new membrane system. We will tell you honestly which option fits your situation.
Yes. For every waterproofing job we issue an installation certificate referencing the AS 3740 (internal) or AS 4654 (external) standard, the products used, and the date of installation. This is required for building certifiers and home insurance claims.
A correctly installed liquid membrane system has a design life of 25 years or more in protected internal applications. External systems exposed to UV and weather generally last 15 to 20 years before assessment.
Yes. Both planter boxes and roof terraces require specific external-grade systems with proper drainage detailing. We use heavy-duty torch-on or polyurethane membranes for these applications, with full waterstop detailing at edges and drains.
