Most jobs fall into one of three groups. Inside the home, wet areas and joinery are sealed with mould-resistant silicone: shower and bathroom resealing, kitchen sealing, and general silicone caulking for tile, stone, glazing and joinery joints. If existing silicone has failed, gone mouldy or pulled away, remedial caulking covers the full strip and reseal.
Outside and on structural work, the product changes. Polyurethane caulking suits external walls, render, masonry and metal, where joints move and often need to be painted over. Expansion joints in slabs, car parks and walkways need the right backing rod and joint profile so the sealant can move with the building.
Some work is about what sits behind or within the finish. Waterproofing covers membranes for wet areas, balconies and planter boxes, and fire-rated caulking seals joints, gaps and service penetrations in fire-resisting walls and floors to the project specification.
